Our Projects and Volunteering
Working closely with our community and local parish councils, we are a group of volunteers who have spent the past six years working on environmental projects and community initiatives across the Rame Peninsula in Cornwall. Our mission is to create areas for social cohesion, expand outdoor learning opportunities, and support food resilience. We teach growing methods that sequester carbon, build healthy soil, and support wildlife, guided by our permaculture ethics:

Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Share

Everyone is welcome to come and volunteer at our projects so if you would like to get involved please just message your phone number or email so we can add you to our what's app group which updates when and where we are most weeks.
We have designed and implemented several local gardens, including:

Millbrook Community Wildlife Garden & Outdoor Classroom

This area is a wonderful space for community connection, offering weekly volunteering and outdoor learning for local schools. Children explore nature, grow food, and build resilience through activities like foraging, campfire cooking, and apple pressing. Our new outdoor classroom provides a hub for community groups and workshops. The Millbrook Community Garden features biodiverse vegetable beds, rainwater systems, a polytunnel, and a forest orchard.

Maker with Rame Community Orchard

In 2022, we planted a variety of fruit trees using permaculture-based watering systems, such as swales, to build climate resilience. To protect the young trees from our local deer population, we installed high-fence protection. The orchard also features a small pond; by scything and maintaining wild areas, we’ve created vital habitats for voles and mice, which has welcomed the return of the barn owl. Local playgroups regularly visit to pick fruit and explore the orchard’s rich biodiversity.

Penntorr Health Centre Wellbeing Garden, Torpoint

In 2023, we partnered with our local GP practice to design and create a therapeutic wellbeing garden. Filled with lavender, herbs, wildflower meadows, and fruit trees, this peaceful space serves as a retreat and teaching area for patients and staff alike. We are proud to share that it was recently recognized with an award in the GP Journal for its positive impact on community health.

Millbrook Community Orchard - Food for the Future

This winter, we planted a wide variety of fruit and nut trees around Millbrook Park for the community to enjoy in years to come. Since this site was previously a landfill area, we created bunds and replenished the soil with compost to ensure healthy growth. We used garlic for natural pest control and comfrey to nourish the earth around each tree. We are very grateful to Millbrook Football Club for allowing us to irrigate the orchard using rainwater collected from their roofs.

🌿 Education & Courses
🤝 Community Projects
🌍 Regeneration in Action

The Rame Peninsula is a wonderful place to visit. We offer the full 12 day Permaculture Design Certificate Course or you can take various modules over a period of time if this suits you better. All modules offer practical skills for real-world change.  We can help find you accomodation or camping for your stay.

Working together we help create gardens, orchards, areas for social cohesion and learning spaces using regenerative initiatives, wholly benifitting our local and wider communities.

We work within schools sharing immersive educational projects where children learn about bio diversity, growing food, climate resilience, and conservation through hands-on play.
